Which Album to choose?
As you listen to all this music you’ll find there are certain aspects of each title that highlight both their similarities and differences. While ranging from the subtle to the obvious, there are some that are downright invisible as each album reflects not only what was going on in my life but the times in which they were composed and recorded.
For starters, once a song is recorded, I never pass that exact way again. Each new effort peels off another layer of the soul, so to speak, and reaches for something more both in the physical and spiritual realms. For the studio, maybe a new mixingboard, microphone, digital recorder or even an instrument; in my musical development I might project some newfound confidence in methods of composition while also instrumental explorations that might include alternate tunings, counterpoint and harmonies. Musical growth mirrors the personal so quite often it may be to trust the gifts as they come through.
For the listener, there are some things that allow you to gravitate towards one title rather than another. Perhaps a song you’re listening to in the samples gives you that certain emotional trigger; perhaps a song was heard in someone’s home or in a store that found you frozen in time and place, hearing something far beyond the music itself, like maybe the songs with you. For ultimately, it is all a reflection of what resides inside of us that we react to with the music ‘greasing the skids’ to aid in the process.
