Ransom Tavern - New Old Vermonters

  • Kedron Valley Inn South Woodstock, VT (map)

The New Old Vermonters perform original Americana, folkthatrocks, and fiddle tunes.

Spencer Lewis’ old-timey ballads and anthems are sung alongside raucous, homeade fiddle tunes. Add the fabled cannon of lost songs from Jared Barkan, Spencer’s songwriting buddy from the 70’s. Harmonies abound with Spencer on guitar, violin, fiddle; Justin Park on mandolin, guitar; Mark Burds on guitar, banjo and slide guitar. There are always a few surprises with instrumental jams and some nuggets from a repetoire featuring the unheralded and obscure

“Vermont has a poet laureate, so why not a music laureate?

I propose Spencer Lewis”

- Maria Buteux Reade, Edible Green Mountains (Fall/ Winter’15)

“A terrifically gifted guitarist and violinist. Lewis crafts inviting rustic soundscapes - Americana for the new-age set.”

– Dan Bolles, Seven Days

“As a fiddler in the old time tradition, his ‘97 release his Lighter Than Fancy reveals Lewis to be an inventive, serendipitous writer of old-time fiddle tunes with melodies that are as timeless as any they emulate.”

-Pamela Polston, Seven Days
